Express Entry Overtakes Quebec’s Arrima in Attracting French-speaking Candidates

Express Entry Overtakes Quebec’s Arrima in Attracting French-speaking Candidates

Express Entry is zooming past Quebec’s Arrima portal as it invited over 5,000 more candidates between July 2023 and March 2024.

The figures speak for themselves. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 18,200 profiles through the category-based Express Entry draws for French-speaking candidates. Quebec’s Arrima portal issued 13,133 invitations to apply during the eight months leading up to March 2024. These invitations were under the Quebec Skilled Worker Program (QSWP).

Canada is underlining Francophone immigration by operating dedicated Express Entry invitation rounds to select top-ranking profiles meeting the criteria for the Francophone category draws. IRCC began category-based draws in June 2023 to enhance the immigration of skilled workers across in-demand occupations.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) created these categories for the draws:

Healthcare occupations

Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) occupations

Transport occupations

Trades occupations

Agriculture/ Agri-food occupations

French language proficiency

These categories will drive Express Entry invitation rounds in 2024. The French proficiency Express Entry draws address Canada’s mandate to boost Francophone communities across the country. Having a minimum of level 7 French language skills in all language abilities is the main requirement to enter the category-based Express Entry draws for French-speaking candidates.
