Express Entry Latest Draw Invites 4,500 STEM Professionals

In its most recent Express Entry draw, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) extended invitations to 4,500 candidates with work experience in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) occupations. 

This category-based draw, #293, occurred on April 11, 2024.

This marked the first-ever category-based Express Entry draw exclusively for STEM Occupations conducted by IRCC. Candidates needed a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 491 or above to qualify. 

The demand for professionals in STEM fields is high across Canada. Provinces like Ontario, Quebec, and British Columbia. At the end of 2023 Q4, the Professional, Scientific, and Technical Services category had 56,915 job vacancies in Canada, indicating the value placed on STEM professionals.

The eligibility criteria for the STEM Occupations category include meeting the requirements of one of the Express Entry streams: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, or the Canadian Experience Class. 

Candidates must have at least six months of full-time, continuous work experience within the past three years in one of the 24 National Occupational Classification (NOC) codes targeted for the STEM Occupations category.

Some occupations included in the STEM Occupations category are Architects, Civil Engineers, Computer Engineers, Data Scientists, Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Software Developers, and Web Designers.

Candidates who received an invitation in this draw have 60 days to submit a complete application for Canada Permanent Residency to the IRCC. 

This draw reaffirms Canada’s unwavering commitment to attracting and retaining skilled professionals in STEM fields, further solidifying its position as a hub for innovation and technology-driven growth.
