Canada’s Express Entry CRS Thresholds Likely to Hover above 450 for Several Months

The November 2022 Express Entry data shows a total of 63,627 candidates in the pool having CRS scores in the range of 451-600.

Immigration is the primary driver of Canada’s population and economy. Canada has ambitious immigration targets to tackle its labor shortages as the new immigration levels plan 2023-25 targets 465,000 new permanent immigrants in 2023, nearly 485,000 in 2024, and 500,000 in 2025.

The record 1.45 million new permanent residents in the immigration levels plan for three years will help Canada address workforce shortages because of the staggering number of retirees and low population growth.

Aspiring immigrants planning to study, work and settle in Canada must choose a relevant immigration program to match their skills, education, and work experience.

Need to Improve CRS scores

Express Entry is Canada’s application management system ranking candidates by assigning them individual CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System). Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) selects candidates with the highest ranking scores and issues Invitations to Apply for permanent residence.

CRS score is the crucial factor to qualify Express Entry candidates for invitation to apply for permanent residence. There is stiff competition among candidates to score high CRS points. There was a sudden surge in candidates with high CRS scores as IRCC halted Express Entry draws because of the pandemic. It underlines the reason for high CRS cut-offs in the subsequent draws.

The November 2022 data shows a total of 232,215 candidates in the pool of Express Entry, with 63,627 candidates having CRS scores over 451. These figures mean CRS scores will continue to stay above 450 for several months, affecting the prospects of candidates with a CRS score lower than 450.
