Canada Holds the Year’s First Targeted Express Entry Draw Inviting 7,000 Candidates

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada conducted a targeted Express Entry draw on February 1, 2024, to invite 7,000 candidates for permanent residence.

The first category-based Express Entry draw of 2024 targeted French-speaking candidates in the Express Entry pool. The CRS score cut-off for the targeted Express Entry draw was 365 points, much lower than the recent general draws.

The latest general category Express Entry rounds had a minimum CRS score requirement of 541 points. The draw issued 730 Invitations to Apply for permanent residence on January 31, 2024. IRCC invited 1,510 candidates in a general Express Entry draw on January 10 with a minimum CRS score of 546 points and 1,040 profiles with a CRS score cut-off of 543 points on January 23.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) targets in-demand occupations through various category-based Express Entry draws. These include:

Healthcare occupations

Professions in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics

Occupations in various trades, such as plumbing, carpentry, and construction

Transport occupations

Agriculture and agri-food occupations

The targeted Express Entry draw on February 1 marked the lowest CRS score so far in the category for candidates with French language proficiency. The draw was the biggest invitation round among all category-based Express Entry draws.
