Canada Holds the Week’s Second Express Entry Draw Inviting 1,000 Candidates for Permanent Residency

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted a category-based Express Entry draw for trade occupations on December 19, 2023.

The second Express Entry draw of the week invited 1,000 candidates with CRS scores of 425 points and above. The Trades Category-based Express Entry draw witnessed a significant drop in the CRS cut-off from yesterday’s All-program Express Entry draw. The December 18, 2023, General Express Entry draw required a minimum of 542 CRS points for selection.

IRCC conducted the fifth Category-based draw of the month after a long hiatus in November 2023. The December 19 Trades Occupation draw targeted ten occupations as follows:

Carpenters

Construction millwrights and industrial mechanics

Contractors and supervisors

Electricians

Elevator constructors and mechanics

Refrigeration, air-conditioning, and heating mechanics

Machine fitters

Plumbers

Residential and commercial installers and servicers

Welders and machine operators

Canada holds category-based Express Entry draws to attract skilled workers from in-demand occupations. Eligibility for occupation-specific categories includes at least six months’ skilled work experience in eligible occupations.

Candidates applying under Canada’s three main economic immigration programs are eligible for occupation-specific category-based Express Entry selection rounds. The French language proficiency category requires a minimum of level 7 score in all four language skills.
