Canada Crosses the Milestone of 100,000 New Permanent Residents in January and February 2023

Canada issued over 100,000 new PRs in two months of 2023, registering a 40 percent growth over last year’s equivalent period.

The total number of new PRs in January and February 2022 was 72,815. In 2023, there was a processing of 100,430 new PRs during the same time frame. The impressive growth in the number of new permanent residents in January and February 2023 occurred across provinces. The growth percentages of new PRs ranged between 22.7 percent and 307.7 percent for different provinces, and territories in Canada.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) expects to welcome approximately 602,580 new permanent residents in 2023 at the current growth rate. The following are new PNP allocations of different provinces:

Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) – 9,750 nominations

Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) – 9,500 nominations

Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) – 7,250 nominations

Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) – 16,500 nominations

New Brunswick Provincial Nominee Program (NBPNP) – 5,500 nominations

Boosting the provincial quota to nominate applicants for permanent residency will help Canada address long-term labor shortages that have been affecting provincial economies. The considerable growth in the number of new PRs is the outcome of Canada’s immigration-friendly policies.
