Canada Commences the Parents and Grandparents 2023 Lottery

Canada Commences the Parents and Grandparents 2023 Lottery

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) rolled out the Parents and Grandparents Lottery 2023 on October 10, 2023.

The random selection of the interested potential PGP sponsors will continue from October 10 to October 23, 2023. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) aims to issue 24,200 Invitations to Apply to submissions in the backlog from the 2020 pool. Canada expects to receive up to 15,000 complete applications.

Potential Parents and Grandparents Program sponsors who did not receive ITAs in 2021 and 2022, despite submitting their Interest to Sponsor, may keep checking their mail, including the spam folder.

Canada’s Parents and Grandparents Program

The Parents and Grandparents Program enables eligible sponsors to meet the Minimum Necessary Income criteria to bring their parents or grandparents to Canada as permanent residents. PGP falls under IRCC’s family class immigration pathway, aiming to reunite families.

The sponsored parents and grandparents have access to several facilities as permanent residents. These comprise access to publicly funded healthcare and the right to work regardless of location and occupational sector. They can also become Canadian citizens after meeting the qualifying criteria.

Being a Canadian citizen or permanent resident is the main criterion for sponsoring parents or grandparents under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP). A sponsor must commit to providing financial and other support to parents and grandparents through an undertaking.
