Alberta Enhances PNP Pathways through the Latest Updates to Boost Provincial Immigration

The recent PNP updates by Alberta comprise measures for facilitated rural immigration, Economic Mobility, and a new healthcare pathway.

As per the April 3 announcement by Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP), Alberta will add a new dedicated Healthcare pathway besides joining the Economic Pathways Pilot and relaxing the eligibility requirements of rural Alberta Business Worker pathways. Following are a few highlights of these updates.

A new dedicated healthcare pathway

Eligible Healthcare Workers under the Alberta Express Entry selection can now explore a new dedicated pathway for provincial immigration. The following healthcare workers may seek nomination for permanent residence:

Physicians

Licensed practical nurses

Registered nurses

Nurse practitioners

Physician assistants

Physiotherapists

Psychologists

Occupational therapists

Clinical social workers

A valid job offer from an employer in Alberta’s healthcare sector and proof of eligibility fulfilling conditions to practice in the province are the main requirements for applying to the new healthcare pathway. The new stream will cover up to thirty percent of 2023 Express Entry allocations. It helped 58 Express Entry candidates a secure invitation to apply in the first draw under the new healthcare pathway. The minimum CRS score was 351 points.

Participation in EMPP

Alberta will be part of the federal Economic Mobility Pathways Pilot (EMPP) to facilitate skilled and qualified refugees who immigrate to Canada by exploring the existing economic mobility programs.

Rural Entrepreneur stream

Alberta relaxed eligibility requirements for the Rural Entrepreneur stream of its provincial immigration program by reducing the minimum investment criterion to $100,000 from the earlier condition of $200,000.

The province removed the condition of submitting an endorsement letter from a settlement organization. It will streamline the AAIP Rural renewal stream’s community designation application process. Communities will process a settlement plan despite the change.
