Self-Employment Program

Self-Employment Program

The government of Canada offers immigration programs for self-employed individuals with skills and specialization in specific areas. The applicant for the program must demonstrate their relevant expertise and skills that have helped them remain self-employed in their country of origin.

To successfully apply for the program, the candidate must also show their ability to make some impactful contribution in their relevant area of expertise while in Canada.

We have helped many individuals qualify for the Self-Employment Program by providing them with the right advice and guidance. We have one of the best teams of immigration experts to help you make the right self-employment career decisions based on your skills, qualification, experience, and expertise.

The National Occupation Classification of Canada has a complete list of all the career types that fall under these two categories:

The skills are listed under the Cultural and Sporting/Athletic categories:

Cultural

  • Painter
  • Dancer
  • Journalist
  • Writer
  • Musician
  • Designer

Sporting Athletic

  • Sports coach
  • Athlete
  • Referee
  • Program leaders

This list covers a broad list of common skills. There are many other skills and athletic specialties under which applicants can apply for the program.

Applicants must meet specific criteria which enable them to receive points under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). As a candidate, you stand a better stand for qualifying if you check more boxes. The criteria are:

Work Experience

You must have a minimum of two years of experience in your field.

Education

You must have gained relevant tertiary or skills and qualifications in your area of specialization.

Age

You must be between 18 and 35 years of age.

Language Skills

Your chances will improve with your proficiency in Canada’s official languages. The scores are calculated on basic, moderate, and high proficiency. French and English are the major languages spoken throughout the country.

Adaptability

This criterion takes into account the ease with which you can assimilate into Canadian society.
Younger candidates generally get preference, as they are seen as better placed to contribute to the economy of Canada for a longer time than older candidates. However, more senior candidates can score in other areas such as work experience to make the mark. If you have any issues regarding the adaptability factor, we can help you address the problem effectively.

The points you earn from this list are added to create a score. This is added to the online profile created while applying for the self-employment program. Those who top the list in their respective fields get an ITA or Invitation to Apply for a permanent resident in Canada.

The Perks of the Self Employment Program in Canada

The most important aspect of the Self-Employment Program in Canada is that it doesn’t set any net worth demands. You must have sufficient funds, though, to meet the costs of immigration, as decided by the visa procedures.

You can also explore various career prospects, even if your current area of interest and specialty is something else. For instance, if you are a trained musician but have knowledge and interest in the technical areas of sound recording with some exposure to the same in your country of origin, you can explore that opportunity, too.

Also, you need just two years of experience in your field of work to be able to work in that culture in Canada.
