The name of Yukon’s territorial healthcare plan is Yukon Health Care Insurance Plan (YHCIP).

Coverage – eligibility and wait time

Students

No international student is eligible for this plan. They have to buy their own private healthcare insurance cover, unless it is included in their school fees.

Temporary Workers

For eligibility, temporary workers require a valid Work Permit of at least 12 months (1 year).
The coverage commences three months from the date of approval.This is the reason you need to buy private insurance. Do apply as soon as you get to Yukon.

Permanent Residents

For eligibility, permanent residentsmust make Yukon their home and be physically present here for at leastfive monthseach year.

The Process of Application

In your application, you have to provide supporting documents that prove the following:

  • Your status in Canada
  • Your Yukon residency
  • Your identity

You can apply for this in person at:

  • Insured Health Services Office at 204, Lambert Street (4th Floor) in Whitehorse
  • Territorial Agents in rural areas
