Like all other Canadian provinces and territories, Ontario too has a healthcare plan. It covers quite a lot of medical care costs incurred by patients and helps them to get quality healthcare without worrying about the charges.
The name of Ontario’s provincial healthcare plan is Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).
No international student is eligible for this plan. They have to buy their own private healthcare insurance cover unless it is included in their school fees.
Temporary workers that have a Work Permit of over 6 months are eligible for this cover.
This cover commences three months from the date they have been approved for the same. This is the reason why you should buy private insurance immediately post your arrival in Ontario.
