British Columbia

British Columbia

In the medically precarious situations of today, the steeply ascending cost of medical expenses, access to good medical facilities, and high hospitalization costs can be truly financially strenuous for everyone.

If you are in British Columbia, Canada, you may be eligible for its medical services plan which will allow you to get medical assistance without paying through your nose.

British Columbias provincial healthcare plan is known as the Medical Services Plan (MSP).

Coverage – eligibility and wait time

Students

If you are a student, you are eligible for this plan if you have a Study Permit with a minimum time duration of half a year (6 months).

Your coverage shall begin when you enter British Columbia or from the date signed on your Study Permit, whichever comes later. Do note that this coverage is effective for only three months.

You should buy private insurance and apply for it immediately after you get to British Columbia.

Permanent Residents

All permanent residents who have established residence in British Columbia stand eligible for this cover. It commences three months after the date of your establishing status as a Permanent Resident of British Columbia. For that time period, you should buy your own health insurance.
