For example, you will require information regarding which documents to have if you are planning on driving in Prince Edward Island.

Visitors

If you are from outside Canada and are visiting Prince Edward Island, you should have:

  • A valid home country driver’s license

  • AnInternational Driver’s Permit in your license is not in English or French language.

Note that you can drive for up to three months or 90 days here as a visitor.

Students

If you are from outside Canada and are studying in Prince Edward Island, you should have a valid home country driver’s license.
You can drive for up to four months or 120 days here as a student. However, you are required to exchange your driving license for a Prince Edward Island license.

Seasonal Agricultural Worker Programforeign workers

If you are a foreign worker under the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Program(SAWP) in Prince Edward Island, you must you should have:

  • A valid home country driver’s license

  • AnInternational Driver’s Permit

Note that you can drive for up to eight monthsfor any one year.

Residents

As a new resident of Prince Edward Island, you can change your home country driving permit to a Class 5 license within 120 days after taking residency.
In case your driving permitis from the following countries/territories:

  • Australia
  • Austria
  • France
  • Germany
  • Japan
  • Republic of Korea
  • Taiwan
  • United Kingdom (including Northern Ireland and the Isle of Man)
  • United States

You can exchange it for either a Prince Edward Island Class 5driver’s license or Class 6 (depending on the country).
However,

  • If your country is not on this list, you are required to take afull drivers license examination, comprising knowledge, vision,and road tests.
