To be able to get a drivers license is considered a privilege and not a right in Canada. Also, high standards have been set for drivers and each province has its rules and regulations regarding the same.

If you are from outside Canada and are visiting Newfoundland and Labrador, you should have a valid home country driver’s license.

As a new resident of Newfoundland and Labrador, you can change your home country driving permit to a Class 5 license within 90 days after taking residency.
In case your driving permitis from the following countries/territories:
You can exchange it to either a Newfoundland and Labrador Class 5driver’s license or Class 6 (depending on the country).
In case your country is not on this list, you will need to undergo a complete drivers license examination, comprising knowledge, vision,and road tests.Also, you shall be placed in theGraduated Driver’s Licence Program.
