Ontario

Ontario

You’ve certainly made the right choice if you are thinking of moving to Ontario. This beguiling blend of urban and rural living is home to some of the most popular places in Canada, such as Ottawa, Toronto, and the famous Niagara Falls. It even houses four of the five great lakes!

The Place

Sharing borders with the five US states of New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Minnesota, Ontario is found on the east-central side of Canada. It is one among Canadas 13 provinces and is preferred the world over by people looking to immigrate to this inviting land.

Its capital, Toronto, is a melting pot of multicultural influences and is considered the cultural hub of Canada. In fact, around 50 percent of the population of this world-famous metropolitan city comprises minorities.

Fun fact: Toronto ranks sixth in the list of the worlds safest cities.

Weather

Considered to be among the warmest regions in Canada, the weather in Ontario is warm and temperate. Its seasons are varied. Summer is warm while the winter is deep and cold. Winter sees more rainfall than summer here.

The coldest month of the year here is January while July is the warmest. Northern Ontario sees a longer and frostier winter than the southern parts.

Living Cost

There are many types of industries in this province, which translates to a burgeoning rise in job opportunities. As Ontario is Canadas economic core, myriad careers await those who are willing to try their luck here. Also, there is no unemployment problem here even with a big population.

This means:

  • The living cost here is more than 1.15 times the average in the whole of Canada.
  • Ontario is the second most expensive place to live in Canada.

However, these negatives are offset by the high salaries people can command in this region.

Ontario is ranked as the fourth best state to live in Canada. Most immigrants are drawn by the awesome quality of life found here – they have much larger homes due to the massive size of this province. Also, the beautiful open spaces and a mind-boggling number of trees with beautifully clean air beguiles many to Ontario.

Healthcare

The healthcare system of Ontario is considered to be one of the best in the world.
You can avail free healthcare through the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP).

It provides cover for:

  • Hospital and doctor visits
  • Diagnostic services
  • Treatment for injuries or illnesses

However, you will have to pay for dental and eye care, and for prescription drugs if you are 25 years of age or older. Also, cosmetic surgery is not covered under this plan.

There is an OHIP + plan too, which provides coverage for people under 24 years of age.

Education

As in the rest of Canada, publicly funded education is free of cost.

It is divided into three stages:

  1. Early childhood education – birth to age 6
  2. Elementary school – kindergarten to grade 8
  3. Secondary school – grade 9 to 12

For higher education, students can go for certificate programs, diplomas, apprenticeships, and degrees in colleges. Many excellent undergraduate and graduate degrees and other professional programs are offered by universities.

Free healthcare, a caring and progressive atmosphere, geographically perfect location – all of these and more await people from all walks of life to make this province their home.
