African and Asian immigrants in Canada had the highest employment rates among PR holders from other regions, according to a recent Statistics Canada study.
Individuals with recent PR status from Asia and Africa had over 66 percent employment rates in 2023. The newcomer groups from these regions saw higher employment rates than the average employment rates for regions, such as Europe, North America, and Latin America.
The Statistics Canada study confirms newcomers from Asia and Africa have better chances to secure employment than other regions. The likelihood of getting employment is higher in individuals from Asia and Africa aged between 15 and 25 years. There was a higher employment rate for individuals between 25 and 54 years from North America and Latin America.
Permanent Residence status holders from Asia and Africa have better chances of finding employment by the time they reach the age of 25 years. Canada values the contribution of foreign workers to its labor force by providing diverse pathways to permanent residence, including federal and provincial immigration streams.
Canada witnessed over 108 percent growth in the population of temporary foreign workers during the previous decade. International students in Canada also drive growth in the number of foreign workers.
